Evan's coach put them in an extra tournament two weekends ago and it was their first outdoor game/tournament of the season! There were 13 teams in the age division so it was a huge bracket. They had two games on Saturday at 4pm and 6pm out at Founders Park in Farmington. The weather was decent in the sun, but cool in the shade.
We played the West Oakland Wings first and beat them 17-6. Evan had an in-park home run! He was pretty amped up. Several of his teammates had some big hits too, almost over the fence. They then played the Southwest Aztecs and beat them 12-2 with more hits for all the kids. It was a pretty exciting day and with the run differential, we ended up being seeded 1st place!
Since we were seeded 1st, we avoided the early games on Sunday. We played at Eastern's softball fields and started with a noon game against the West Oakland Wings again. It was much colder and windier, but the boys did amazing and won 14-4. They went on to play at 2pm against the Motor City Hit Dogs - Barta team and beat them 8-2. They made it to the championship and played again at 4pm against the Northville Broncos. We were winning 4 innings straight 5-1 and then just seemed to fall apart in the 5th and 6th innings and ended up losing 12-5. The boys were bummed, but they took runners-up in a huge tournament! I'm so excited for Evan and for what's to come this season with this team!
They're in another tournament this weekend in Westland! Hoping to bring some hardware home!
