With us having different spring breaks this year, we decided to take a long weekend during Scott's spring break to Kansas City, MO. Air miles were cheap and the kids could cross over another state (or two with Kansas being right there) and another ballpark off their scratch-off maps. It was also a bonus that my good friend, Jana, lives in Oklahoma and didn't mind bringing her family to Kansas City Saturday night! We left on a Friday morning flight at 8am and landed after a bumpy two hour flight. We took an Uber to our hotel and we were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready for us to check-in. So, we left our bags, freshened up, and headed out to explore all day!
Our first stop was Boulevard Brewing Company for a light lunch and some beers and games. The brewery was huge and had a gift shop and cute interactive exhibit about the history of beer. We then took a short Uber over to the World War I Museum, which was really cool! Sean, of course, was in his element.
The World War I Museum wasn't busy at all. They had a good movie to start with the events that lead up to the war and they had several exhibits. We spent about two hours at the museum.
It was a short walk over to the Money Museum (which was free) inside the Federal Reserve of Kansas City. And it was actually pretty cool to see the vault (which you couldn't take pictures of). The kids got a free bag of shredded money upon exiting.
From there we walked for quite a while in the drizzle, stopping in a shopping center to do some browsing. We had dinner booked at Jack Stack BBQ, that came highly recommended. I thought the food was pretty good, but it wasn't as great as it was hyped up to be. The kids had a grilled chicken sandwich and chicken tenders. I had a mac and cheese with pulled pork that was fabulous and Scott enjoyed a combo platter. We rode the free street car back to our hotel, stopping at a party store for adult beverages, and went back to relax and unwind. It was a fun, but jam packed day!
Saturday morning we started our chilly day off by taking the street car to the City Market after breakfast at the hotel. It reminded me of Eastern Market. Evan picked out a Van Halen vinyl and we enjoyed some unique bottles of pop and treats. We then walked to the Missouri River and took some pictures on this cute little trail and we ended at a brewery...how perfect is that?

We walked back to the hotel and got changed for the baseball game. We took an Uber to Kauffman Stadium for the game and got there in time for batting practice. Both boys caught a ball from the Orioles batting practice and we all got free t-shirts as the giveaway for the game. The game itself was horrible for Kansas City. The Orioles kicked their butts. The stadium was fun though with wristbands for the kids to do putt-putt, batting cages, pitching, and other fun things. I think we spent more time doing that than actually watching the game. We Ubered back to the hotel after the game and met up with my friend and her family!
We ended up just eating dinner at the hotel and hanging out. Scott was a little overserved from the baseball game so he wasn't very social, but the kids and I hung out with Jana and her oldest son doing puzzles and games in the lobby. It was fun!
Sunday morning we ate breakfast at the hotel again and worked on packing to check-out. The plan was to leave our suitcases at the hotel while we went out for a while. Jana and her oldest son came with us as her youngest son and husband went on a tour of Kansas City Chief's stadium. We opted to check out this used book store that's 3 floors. I bought 3 books. We then walked to cross the street in Kansas for a minute and then walked on to Q39 for a lunch reservation. Their food was so good! I'm glad we kind of ended on that note. We took an Uber over to Strange Days Brewery by our hotel to hang out for a while. Then, it was time to say goodbye and head to the airport. Our flight was at 5:30pm and we got home around 9pm. It was a fun weekend!
